Dear...

Question

Why did Allah consider the four religions necessary? Would it not be all right if Islam were sent only?

Answer

Dear Brother/Sister;

Everything is the best in the environment it is presented. However, generally there is something which is the best and the most beautiful among all things.

For example, in the Holy Qur’an, it is expressed that man was created in the best of moulds. According to that, were the other things created deficiently? No. They are the most beautiful creatures in their own environments, too.

As an example, the Sun is the most beautiful in its own environment. In other words, none of the people could live if the Sun did not exist. However, man is the most beautiful in general, and the Sun is the most beautiful in point of its existence, and in point of the mission it performs. We can give more examples. Sheep, earth, fruit trees, angels, etc are the most beautiful and the most perfect creatures in their own environments.

In this case, the fact that man is the most perfect does not mean that other creatures are not perfect or that they are created deficiently.

No other sheep more perfect than those existing sheep can be conceived. No camels more beautiful than those camels or no sun more beautiful than the Sun can be imagined. In the same way, the Holy books revealed were the most perfect books which were to be sent at those times.

Teaching a primary school student the multiplication table is neither extra nor insufficient. However, not the multiplication table but more advanced topics are taught to a university student. Similarly, the holy books sent before the Qur’an are the best of their times and sending them at those times is reasonable and it is not a deficiency. From that standpoint, every prophet and every revelation sent to them is the best and the most favorable of its own time.
However, so to speak, the Qur’an was revealed when all men came to the same level like the students of a university who could take their lessons from a single book and from a single prophet.

Considering that the most advanced science is taught in universities, then can we say the science taught in a university should be taught to primary school children? Humanity is also like an education institution. Every period is like the departments of that school and the lecturers of those departments are the prophets.

Since from the time of Adam (peace be upon him), humanity has come up to the level of university and achieved the ability to take the perfect lessons of the religion of Islam. Therefore, the last and the most perfect religion has been left as the last. The essence of mathematics also exists in primary school. However, the lesson is taught in accordance with the level of primary school students and the teacher does not teach everything he knows but teaches the topics they can understand.

In the same way, the other prophets instructed the people according to their levels and educated them. In the end, when they reached the level of being educable from all aspects, the religion of Islam and the exalted Prophet (pbuh) were sent.

-Why did Allah let the Gospel and the Torah to be distorted although He has protected the Qur’an? Why did Allah let His own words to be changed before?

1. Trusting in Allah for the things which we do not know their reasons (wisdom) demonstrates the perfection of our belief and our fidelity to our religion.

2. The things Allah has created on the earth are not the same as each other. He ties some of them to causes and creates some of them without any causes or means. For example, although every person comes from a mother and a father, He created Adam (pbuh) without a mother and a father, Jesus (pbuh) without a father and Eve without a mother. It means he sometimes acts out of general laws.

Moreover, with regards to laws, fire burns, the Moon does not split into two, trees do not walk and sticks do not transform into snakes. However, with the order and desire of Allah, Abraham (pbuh) did not burn, the Moon was splitted into two, the tree walked by the Prophet’s (pbuh) order and the stick of Moses (pbuh) became a snake.

Moreover, while some prophets came and were killed by the communities they were sent to, Allah protected some of His prophets such as Moses, Abraham and Muhammad (pbuh).

The same situation can be valid for the books. Allah, who let the other books be changed, prevented the Noble Qur’an from being changed by His particular beneficence. For that reason, He indicated that the Qur’an is under His private protection. Allah, who prevented Abraham (pbuh) from burning in the fire, also protected the Qur’an to be changed.

Our souls and satans cannot ask why He did not prevent his other prophets from being killed but protected Abraham; they cannot express their opinion regarding the issue, either.

3. If Adam had not been expelled from Paradise, not so many people could have progressed. Seeds get out of storehouses and get into fields so that they become trees; similarly, human beings have descended to the field of Earth from the storehouse of Paradise so that they would progress like a tree.

In the same way, if the other books had not been changed, the revelation of the Qur’an would not have been in question, then. They were to be changed so that it would give rise to the revelation of the Qur’an. However, only the people who have changed them are responsible for their alteration.

4. The status of the Prophet (pbuh) among the other prophets is apparent. He was sent as a mercy to all worlds and his prophethood does not pertain to a certain time and a certain period but comprises all times and periods. And he was sent to the human beings and the jinn. The other prophets are not like that.

So, the book of that prophet (pbuh) had to comprise all times and places. If that book had not had a seal that it was unalterable, men would also have changed that book. That seal has protected it.

5. No one can do anything against Allah if He does not let. So, He has shown it by protecting the Qur’an.

Eid is a day of joy and cheer. It is one of the nice days that lofty feelings overflow; the feelings of love and respect revive among believers. Solidarity and fusion reach the limits that day.

Eid is one of the best means of bringing people together and integrating them. The spirit of mutual assistance and gift exchange that climax on eid days do not become limited with living people; it reaches to the people in the grave who wait for al-Fatiha. Believers visit graves on eid days to fulfill their wishes; they read verses from the Quran, al-Fatiha and prayers, and please the people in the grave.

Eid al-Fitr (Ramadan Festival) has a different place among believers because it shows the total joy of iftar (meal of breaking the fast) of the fasting of one month like the joy of iftar of the daily fasting. Believers, who make their souls fast for a month, which is a long period of time, especially on hot days when Ramadan comes in the summer, experience the joy of being freed from the spiritual responsibility by being successful in test of patience in Eid al-Fitr.

Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha (Sacrifice Festival) were started to be celebrated beginning from the second year of Hegira. Fasting in Ramadan became obligatory that year and believers who fasted in that month celebrated the first three days of the next month (Shawwal) as eid. Therefore, it was called Ramadan festival.

Acting upon the hadith; "The first thing we will do on this day is to perform prayers"(1), Muslims start Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha by performing eid prayers.

Hazrat Prophet said, "The day of Arafa (one day before eid), the day of sacrifice and the days of tashriq are days of eid for Muslims. They are days of eating and drinking. "(2)

The Prophet regarded Eid al-Fitr a day like that and he defined it as the iftar day of the Ramadan fasting.(3) That is why it is forbidden to fast on Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. The fact that it was forbidden to eat a day ago and it becomes forbidden to fast the next day is the most important factor that reminds believers in their world of thoughts and feelings about the real Owner of the bounties.

Everybody fasted based on the command of a Being a day ago and breaks the fast in order to please the same Being today. Everybody realizes fully that He is the real Owner of the bounties and finds a way of thanking Him.
Since eid is the total iftar of the fasting of a month, the sunnah acts of fasting are carried out on eid day too. Our Prophet (pbuh), who broke his fast by eating something sweet every evening, started Ramadan Festival by eating something sweet. He never left his house without breaking his fasting of a month by eating something sweet like dates. (4)

Our Prophet (pbuh), who encouraged us to perform worshipping and good deeds for the hereafter on every occasion, advised getting up and worshipping on both eid nights. He said that being awake on those nights would cause the heart be awake too. He stated the following in a hadith:

"The heart of a person who gets up and worships on the nights of two eids does not die on the day when hearts die." (5)

There was an atmosphere of joy on eid days in the Era of Bliss (the period when the Prophet lived). Our Prophet (pbuh) went to the mosque in the morning on eid day. He wanted his wives, other women and children to go to the mosque too. Women stayed at the back side of the mosque.(6) Ibn Masud (may Allah be pleased with him) said that after the performance of eid prayer, our Prophet (pbuh) delivered a sermon. Ibn Masud went on as follows:

"I witness by the Messenger of Allah that he performed the prayer before the sermon. Then, he delivered the sermon. Then, he went over to the women because he thought they could not hear his voice. He reminded them some issues. Then, he read the following verse: “O Prophet! When believing women come to thee to take the oath of fealty to thee that they will not associate in worship any other thing whatever with Allah, that they will not steal, that they will not commit adultery (or fornication), that they will not kill their children, that they will not utter slander, intentionally forging falsehood and that they will not disobey thee in any just matter then do thou receive their fealty and pray to Allah for the forgiveness (of their sins): for Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Merciful.” then:

– Will you give oath upon those?, he asked. One of them said:
 	– Yes O Messenger of Allah! The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said:

– Give alms! He encouraged them to give alms. The women who listened to him removed their earrings from their ears and bracelets from their arms, and their rings and necklaces. Bilal al-Habashi spread his garment and said:

–Let my father and mother be sacrificed for you! Come and give (alms)!”
And they started to cast their bracelets, earrings and rings into Bilal's garment. The garment was full of jewelry. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) did not wait there after eid and went to his house.” (7)

When one of the companions who narrated that event was asked, "Were the things that the women gave zakat of Ramadan?, he said: "No. What they gave was sadaqah. The women kept on casting their rings."(8)

Mentioning the same event, Abu Saidi'l-Khudri (may Allah be pleased with him) said that those who gave the most sadaqah were women on eid day.

Eid al-Fitr is a sign of joy indicating having been forgiven. Angels give man the glad tidings of being forgiven.

Sa'd bin Aws al-Ansari narrates: The Messenger of Allah stated the following.

In the morning of Eid al-Fitr, angels come down to roads and say: "O the Community of Muslims! Run towards the mercy of your Lord, whose generosity is abundant. He gives you favors and grants. They are given plenty of rewards. You were ordered to worship at night and you fulfilled that order. You were ordered to fast during the day and you fasted. You obeyed your Lord, so take your rewards.

After the eid prayer is performed, a caller calls out as follows:

"Behold! Glad tidings for you! Your Lord has forgiven you. Go to your houses as having been forgiven. The day of eid is the day of reward. Today is declared as the day of reward in the sky."(9)

Since the days of eid are days of joy, legitimate games and entertainment that will show that joy clearly are permitted. There is a separate chapter in ‘Muslim’ about the issue and there are examples. In one of those narrations, Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) narrates as follows:

"When a group of Abyssinians came and started dancing, Allah's Messenger (PBUH) called for me. And I went and put my head on his shoulder. I started watching the play of the Abyssinians. Finally, I was the first to give up watching them."(10)

However, it is necessary not to exaggerate the joy and turn it to heedlessness. Entertainment should be within legitimate limits and it should not contain any elements of sin. As a matter of fact, eid is a divine feast given to us by Allah. Therefore, we need to remember Allah and thank Him the most on the day of eid. In the timeline, eid is the beginning of a new change, a milestone and time for reckoning. It is one of the means of reminding us that one more year has passed and we have taken one more step towards the realm of grave.

"It is because of this that there are among the narrations many that strongly encourage thanks and remembrance of God at festival times, in order to prevent heedlessness from prevailing and deviation into the illicit. Then at such times, this may transform the bounties of joy and happiness into thanks and make the bounty continue and increase it because thanking increases bounty and dispels heedlessness." (11)

Indeed, the takbirs uttered all together in congregation during the eid prayer is a means of eliminating heedlessness and fulfilling the duty of thanking. When we imagine that not only the people of one country but also more than a billion people all over the world utter takbirs all together, the wonderful situation makes our eids a universal event. At that time, the earth becomes like a single mouth and acts as if it utters takbir and performs a prayer. The raising of those voices that unite in the realm of similitude in this world is the world’s calling out of the oneness towards the heavens like a wonderful chorus.

The disagreements and resentments that occur due to small matters have no place on eid days when such wonderful events take place. Therefore, each believer should renew his fraternity contract with other believers, strengthen it, help the poor, and rejoice children so that the real meaning of the eid will be practiced.

The real adornments and jewels of the eid are takbirs. Each takbir that is uttered revives the spiritual enthusiasm in the spirits and hearts. They make the servant reach lofty feelings before the magnificence of his Lord.
Abu Hurayra narrates: The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) stated the following:

“Adorn your eid by uttering takbirs.” (12)

Getting ready for eids in accordance with sunnah turns that custom to

worshipping, and it makes people spend those days of joy in the consciousness of belief.

Therefore, getting ready for the eid beforehand, putting on clean and nice clothes, having a bath, brushing teeth with miswak or toothbrush, wearing nice perfumes, having a cheerful face and eating dates or something sweet before the prayer of eid as they are all present in sunnah will make the eid days assume a different significance.

As a matter of fact, fitrah, which is known as sadaqah al-fitr, is given on the day of eid. If it has not been given during the month of Ramadan, it is necessary to give it on the day of eid. Besides, the name of Ramadan festival is Eid al-Fitr in hadiths, that is, the festival of fitr. It has that name because the duties of worshipping, which are the necessities of being created, are carried out.

The best form of eid is to shake hands and hug other believers whether you know them or not and wish them happy eids. During the Era of Bliss, the companions wished each other happy eids by saying: "Barakallahu lana wa lakum", that is "May the blessings of Allah be upon us and you”.(13) that wishing can be expressed as “blessed eid, happy eid, have a good eid” etc.

How is Marriage in Turkey?

Love, marriage and divorce may seem like straightforward topics, but Turkish customs concerning love and family are a bit different than American traditions. r>
While the Muslim faith condones polygamy, most Turkish households consist of one man and one woman, in deference to Turkish law.

Similar to many cultures, a Turkish couple becomes engaged when the potential groom asks the potential parents for their daughter's hand in marriage. are not as common as they once were, but Islamic law still technically prohibits pre-marital or courtship.) Usually, gifts are offered by the groom or exchanged between the groom's family and th parents, though the tradition of a dowry is mostly only practiced in rural areas anymore.

The wedding ceremony can be conducted in the bride or home, a hotel ballroom or a government hall. It is conducted by a civil official because marriages conducted by a religious authority are considered invalid. Because no Koran passages are read, the ceremony is usually rather short. Following in the western tradition, a bride usually wears white and a groom will opt for a suit or tuxedo. Afterward, there is almost always a reception involving food and dancing.

The vast majority of couples opt to have children; the typical family size is two adults and two kids. (This number is higher outside of urban areas.) Today, about 20 percent of Turkish households include extended family, such as grandparents.

Divorce is very rare in Turkey, but if a marriage should end in , each party leaves the with whatever possessions they brought into it. Anything they acquired together as a couple goes to the person who acquired them "first." The law prohibits divorced women from re-marrying within 300 days of the finalization of their divorce

Dear Brother/Sister;
The Collections of Hadith include many hadiths that mention the signs to appear before the Doomsday. Evaluating the signs mentioned in the hadiths in terms of their properties, Islamic scholars classified them under two headings as Lesser Signs and Greater Signs. The primary lesser signs that become manifest in the form of the weakening of religious feelings, thoughts and attitudes, not paying due attention to religious rules, abandoning worshipping, increase in immorality in the period before the Doomsday that is called end of time can be listed as follows:
 	a) People competing each other to construct higher buildings (Bukhari, Fitan, 25; see Tajrid Sarih Trns; 1/58).
 	b) People wishing to die (Bukhari, Fitan, 25; Muslim, Fitan, 53-54)
 	c) A great fire originating in Hejaz illuminating the feet of camels in Busra (a town near Damascus) (Bukhari, Fitan, 24; Muslim, Fitan, 42).
 	d) The disappearance of the waters of the Euphrates and the uncovering of gold in the riverbed (Muslim, Fitan, 29-31).
 	e) The disappearance of Islamic sciences and the increase of ignorance (Bukhari, Fitan, 4).
 	f) The increase in earthquakes (Bukhari, Fitan, 25).
 	g) The increase in murders and the appearance of fitnahs (sedition, mischief, testing) (Bukhari, Fitan, 4; Muslim, Fitan, 18).
 	h) The breakout of a war between Jews and Muslims; Muslims killing Jews (Tajrid Sarih Trns, VIII, 341; Muslim, Fitan, 79-82).
 	l) Committing fornication openly; increase in the consumption of alcohol; increase in the number of women and decrease in the number of men (al-Ali an-Nasif Taj, 5/335).
The greater signs of the Doomsday are mentioned as a whole in the following hadith reported by Hudhayfa al-Ghifari (may Allah be pleased with him): Allah's Messenger (pbuh) came to us all of a sudden as we were (busy in a discussion). He said: What do you discuss about? We said, “We are discussing about the Doomsday.” Thereupon, he said, “It will not come until you see ten signs before” and he made a mention of Dajjal (AntiChrist), the smoke, the beast (daabbat al-ard), the rising of the sun from the west, the descent of Jesus son of Mary (pbuh), Gog (Yajuj) and Magog (Majuj), and land-sliding in three places, one in the east, one in the west and one in Arabia at the end of which a fire would burn forth from Yemen and would drive people to the place of their assembly." (Muslim, Fitan, 39)
The ten greater signs of the Doomsday are explained as follows: by other hadiths and Islamic scholars:
 	1. The emergence of Dajjal: Dajjal is a liar that will emerge at the end of time; He will want to subvert the religion of Islam and Muslims and lead them to evil and mischief. It is stated in sound hadiths that the right eye of Dajjal is blind, the word ‘kafir’ (unbeliever) is written on his forehead, that he has no children, that he cannot enter Madinah and Makkah, that he will remain for forty days in the world after his emergence, that he will show some extraordinary states (istidraj), that he will be killed by Hazrat Eesa (Jesus), who will descend to the earth, which is also one of the greater signs of the Doomsday. (Bukhari, Fitan, 26; Muslim, Fitan, 37, 39, 40, 91, 101, 110, 112)
 	2. The emergence of Dukhan (smoke): Dukhan, which means smoke, is one of the greater signs of the Doomsday. (Muslim, Fitan, 39) Before the strike of the Doomsday, a cloud of smoke will cover the world, remaining for forty days; believers will be as if they have caught a cold and unbelievers will be as if they have got drunk.
 	3. The emergence of the Daabbat al-ard: It is a beast that is reported to emerge before the Doomsday. The meaning of it is a beast of the earth. The following is stated in the Quran " And when the Word is fulfilled against them (the unjust), We shall produce from the earth a beast to (face) them: he will speak to them, for that mankind did not believe with assurance in our Signs." (an-Naml, 27/82) Hazrat Prophet stated the following about Daabbat al-ard "the first signs of the Doomsday are the rising of the sun in the west and the emergence of a beast and its observation by people before noon. One of those signs takes place before the other. Then, the other follows it. “(Muslim, Fitan, 118)
 	4) The rising of the sun in the west: The sun will rise in the west; all of the people will believe but the belief of those who have not believed before will not be of any use. (Tajrid Sarih Trns, XII 307; Muslim, Fitan, 118).
 	5. The descent of Hazrat Eesa (Jesus) (pbuh) to the earth: According to Ahl as-Sunnah creed, Hazrat Eesa will descend to the earth before the Doomsday, call Christians to Islam, kill Dajjal and rule the world in accordance with the Shariah of Hazrat Muhammad (pbuh). (Bukhari, Buyu, 102; Muslim, Eeman, 242-247).
 	6. The emergence of Yajuj (Gog) and Majuj (Magog): They are two groups of people whose origins are not certain and that “will do great mischief on earth.” (al-Kahf, 18/94) (Muhammed Hamdi Yazır, Hak Dini Kur'an Dili, IV, 3288) They will spread to the earth as a result of the collapse of the barrier built by Dhul Qarnayn (al-Anbiya, 21/96), they will attack people, demolish the towns by burning and pulling them down. In some narrations it is stated that the barrier is the Great Wall of China. (Muhammed Hamdi Yazır, ibid, IV, 3291, 3374; Bukhari, Anbiya, 7; Muslim, Fitan, 1,2).
7.8.9. Big landslides in three regions: one in the east, one in the west and one in the Arabian peninsula are among the greater signs of the Doomsday (Muslim, Fitan, 39).
 	10. The emergence of a big fire in Yemen and driving people away and chasing them (Muslim, Fitan, 39).
According to some hadiths in Abu Dawud and Tirmidhi (Sunan), the emergence of Mahdi is also one of the greater signs of the Doomsday. (Sunan Tirmidhi, IV, p.1-93: Sunan Abu Dawud, published by M.Abdul Hamid IV, 100, 106).
Hazrat Prophet (pbuh) informed us that the Doomsday would strike on bad people and unbelievers. According to those hadiths, the spirits of the believers will be removed before the Doomsday strikes and they will be sent to the hereafter. (Bukhari, Fitan, 5; Muslim, Imarah, 53).

* We reach the most luminous and fruitful night on the Night of Power. Ramadan is the only month and the Night of Power is the only night ...

We reach the most luminous and fruitful night on the Night of Power. Ramadan is the only month and the Night of Power is the only night mentioned in the Quran. The Lord of the Universe informed His beloved Prophet about the honor and value of those fruitful hours. The virtue of that night is so great that there is an independent chapter in the Quran explaining the mercy that will be manifest and the spiritual events that will take place on that night. That chapter is the chapter of al-Qadr.
God Almighty, uses the expression “Night of Power” clearly three times in a chapter that consists of five verses in order to inform us the holiness of that night:
"We have indeed revealed this (Message) in the Night of Power: And what will explain to thee what the Night of Power is? The Night of Power is better than a thousand Months."
The exalted events are expressed as follows at the end of the chapter:
"Therein come down the angels and the Spirit by Allah's permission, on every errand: Peace!... This until the rise of Morn."
The most important characteristic of the Night of Power is that the Quran, which grants the jinn and men bliss in this world and the hereafter and which is the pre-eternal translation of the book of the universe, was started to be sent down to the sky of the world on that night. Then, it was presented to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh), the addressee of the revelation, through Jibril (Gabriel) in the form of verses or chapters based on needs.
On that blessed night, an opportunity that will lead man to eternal welfare and that will make him gain a fruitful life is granted. A person who spends that night with prayers, dhikr (mentioning the names and attributes of Allah) and worshipping will have the bliss to gain the rewards that can be earned in a long life like eighty years.
The angels, primarily Jibril, who brought the Quran to the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) through revelation, come down to the world and enliven the divine feast and the Quranic table. The believers whose hearts and perceptions are open watch the scenes from the hereafter. With the coming down of the angels, the earth becomes exposed to a spiritual pressure. The world becomes to be, so to speak, narrow for them. They surround the believers and give them the glad tidings of the forgiveness and mercy of their Lord. That exalted manifestation, which goes on until the break of the dawn, blows a vast wind of peace and bliss into the hearts of the umma (community) of Muhammad.
We reach the anniversary of such luminous events on the Night of Power. If we realize the value of it, we will benefit from its abundance and prosperity, and the luminous atmosphere that surrounds the world.
What is the reason (wisdom) why it is said to be better than one thousand months?
"One thousand months" corresponds to a period of eighty-three years and four months. It is the opportunity of obtaining the spiritual level that good people of the past earned in a whole life. The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) told his companions that someone from the sons of Israel had fought for Allah with his weapons for one thousand months. When the companions heard about it, they were surprised and thought that their good deeds were very few. Then, the Chapter of Qadr was sent down.
In another narration, our Prophet told his companions that four people from the sons of Israel had worshipped for eighty years without committing any sins. The companions were very surprised when they heard about it. Then, Jibril came and said, "O Muhammad! Your umma was surprised by the worshipping of eighty years of those people. Allah sent you something better than it” and read the Chapter of Qadr. He said, "It is better than your and your umma’s astonishment."(1)
In another narration, the Messenger of Allah was shown the life spans of the people of all of the ummas. When he saw that the life span of the people of his umma was short, he thought about the good deeds of the people of the ummas with long life spans. He became sorry because he thought that his umma, with the short life span, could not reach the good deeds of those ummas. Allah, the Exalted, granted the Night of Power to His beloved Prophet in return for his sorrow and made it better than one thousand months. (2)
The Chapter of Qadr was sent down upon those events.
That chapter is a chapter that relieved the sorrow of the companions.
How can you explain the fact that the Night of Power is so beneficial?
Certainly, a single Ramadan can produce fruits equal to that of a lifetime of eighty years. The fact that, according to the Qur’an, the Night of Power is more auspicious than a thousand months is a decisive proof of it. For example, a monarch may declare certain days to be festivals during his reign, or perhaps once a year either on his accession to the throne or on some other days which reflect a glittering manifestation of his sovereignty. On those days, he favors his subjects, not within the general sphere of the law, but with his special bounties and favors, with his presence without veil and his wondrous activities. And he favors with his especial regard and attention those of his nation who are completely loyal and worthy. In the same way, the All-Glorious Monarch of eighteen thousand worlds, Who is the Sovereign of Pre-Eternity and Post-Eternity, revealed in Ramadan the illustrious decree of the All-Wise Qur’an, which looks to the eighteen thousand worlds. It is a requirement of wisdom, then, that Ramadan should be like special Divine festival, a dominical display, and a spiritual gathering. Since Ramadan is such a festival, Allah has commanded man to fast, in order to disengage him to a degree from base and animal activities.
Why the Night of Power (Qadr)?
The Night of Qadr means the night of decree (jugdment). As it is explained in Chapter ad-Dukhan, the decrees that are determined by the divine predestination are made distinct on the Night of Power. Therefore, some people call the Night of Power as the night of predestination. As a matter of fact, the amounts and times of the things, affairs and decrees were determined in the pre-eternity; the predestination here is the preparation of the plans of the predetermination program determined earlier. (3)
The word "Qadr" contains the meaning of “pressure” too. Accordingly, that night so many angels come down to the world that the world becomes too small for them.
In a hadith, the following is stated pointing to that situation, "That night, the number of the angels coming down to the world is more than the number of the pebble stones". (4)
Although there are many narrations about what night of Ramadan is the Night of Power, it is recommended to search it on the last ten days of Ramadan. It is stated in some hadiths that it corresponds to the 27th night of Ramadan. The hadith "Search it on the twenty-seventh night" points to it. (5)
Under the light of those narrations, Islamic scholars regarded the twenty-seventh night of the month of Ramadan as the Night of Power, and Muslims worshipped during that night with the intention of the Night of Power.
Therefore, believers try to benefit from that night as much as they can. They try not to spend that night sleeping and resting because thirty thousand rewards are given in return for one letter of the Quran on that night. The rewards of other kinds of worship increase accordingly.
In order to benefit from the Night of Power and to increase the abundance and prosperity of that time, people perform prayers, read the Quran, study the interpretation of the Quran, mention the names of Allah, say salawat, pray to Allah and make supplication. People also give food and sadaqah to the poor and needy. In short, that time is illuminated through all kinds of opportunities. The hadiths that were narrated about the benefits of Night of Power are the best incentives for worshipping.
"All of the previous sins of a person who stays awake and worship on the Night of Power by expecting the reward only from Allah are forgiven." (6)
How should we pray during that night?
Let us find out about it from our Prophet through Hazrat Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her):
"I said, 'O messenger of Allah, if I find attain the Night of Power, how should I pray?’
The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) said, ‘say "Allahumma innaka afuwwun tuhibbu'l-afwa fa'fu anni (O Allah. You are the pardoner; you love pardoning; forgive me).' "
Book 1, Number 0001:
It is narrated on the authority of Yahya b. Ya'mur that the first man who discussed about Qadr(Divine Decree) in Basra was Ma'bad al-Juhani. I along with Humaid b. 'Abdur-Rahman Himyari set out for prilgrimage or for 'Umrah and said: Should it so happen that we come into contact with one of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) we shall ask him a bout what is talked about Taqdir (Division Decree). Accidentally we came across Abdullah ibn Umar ibn al-Khattab, while he was entering the mosque. My companion and I surrounded him. One of us (stood) on his right and the other stood on his left. I expected that my companion would authorize me to speak. I therefore said: Abu Abdur Rahman! there have appeared some people in our land who recite the Holy Qur'an and pursue knowledge. And then after talking about their affairs, added: They (such people) claim that there is no such thing as Divine Decree and events are not predestined. He (Abdullah ibn Umar) said: When you happen to meet such people tell them that I have nothing to do with them and they have nothing to do with me. And verily they are in no way responsible for my (belief). Abdullah ibn Umar swore by Him (the Lord) (and said): If any one of them (who does not believe in the Divine Decree) had with him gold equal to the bulk of (the mountain) Uhud and then, it (in the way of Allah), Allah would not accept it unless he affirmed his faith in Divine Decree. He further said: My father, Umar ibn al-Khattab, told me: One day we were sitting in the company of Allah's Apostle (peace be upon him) when there appeared before us a man dressed in pure white clothes, his hair extraordinarily black. There were no signs of travel on him. None amongst us recognized him. At last he sat with the Apostle (peace be upon him) He knelt before him placed his palms on his thighs and said: Muhammad, inform me about al-Islam. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Al-Islam implies that you testify that there is no god but Allah and that Muhammad is the messenger of Allah, and you establish prayer, pay Zakat, observe the fast of Ramadan, and perform pilgrimage to the (House) if you are solvent enough (to bear the expense of) the journey. He (the inquirer) said: You have told the truth. He (Umar ibn al-Khattab) said: It amazed us that he would put the question and then he would himself verify the truth. He (the inquirer) said: Inform me about Iman (faith). He (the Holy Prophet) replied: That you affirm your faith in Allah, in His angels, in His Books, in His Apostles, in the Day of Judgment, and you affirm your faith in the Divine Decree about good and evil. He (the inquirer) said: You have told the truth. He (the inquirer) again said: Inform me about al-Ihsan (performance of good deeds). He (the Holy Prophet) said: That you worship Allah as if you are seeing Him, for though you don't see Him, He, verily, sees you. He (the enquirer) again said: Inform me about the hour (of the Doom). He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: One who is asked knows no more than the one who is inquiring (about it). He (the inquirer) said: Tell me some of its indications. He (the Holy Prophet) said: That the slave-girl will give birth to her mistress and master, that you will find barefooted, destitute goat-herds vying with one another in the construction of magnificent buildings. He (the narrator, Umar ibn al-Khattab) said: Then he (the inquirer) went on his way but I stayed with him (the Holy Prophet) for a long while. He then, said to me: Umar, do you know who this inquirer was? I replied: Allah and His Apostle knows best. He (the Holy Prophet) remarked: He was Gabriel (the angel). He came to you in order to instruct you in matters of religion.
